Du Bois Institute and Harvard Art Museums present Africans in Black and White: Black Figures in 16th- and 17th-Century Prints. Artists include Albrecht Dürer, Hendrick Goltzius, Rembrandt, and Peter Paul Rubens. Exhibition curated by David Bindman, emeritus professor of the history of art, University College London, and 2010 Sheila Biddle Ford Foundation Fellow, W. E. B. The Headgear exhibit will feature dramatic arrays of horns, antlers, and head mounts of a wide variety of species drawn from the collections of Harvard’s Museum of Comparative Zoology, as well as 3-D diorama and video presentations illustrating the use of horns and antlers in combat. Visitors will be invited to explore some of the properties of horns and antlers by touching real specimens and comparing their own body height to the world’s largest antlers, those of the extinct Irish Elk, which span as much as 12 feet. In addition, through specimens and text, visitors will learn about the structure and function of horn-like structures in other animals from tiny beetles to massive dinosaurs. Drawing from the collections of the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology and Harvard’s Semitic Museum, the exhibition will display artifacts fashioned from the horn and antler of hoofed animals around the world and introduce visitors to the cultural significance of horns, antlers, and animals that wear them, both real and imagined.

Lebanese Perfection at Cafe Barada

I convinced two of my friends to try an assortment of Cafe Barada's appetizers with me on the basis of a long-ago review at this very Meetup web page. We were not disappointed: the hoummos, falafil, and baba ghanouj were scrumptious. Cafe Barada rotates their dinners based on a list of 25 specials. They prepare four or five from the list each day. Read their menu at www.cafebarada.net. Vegetarians can also find delicious variety (and eggplant - yum!) at Cafe Barada. Parking is relatively easy along this stretch of Massachusetts Avenue in North Cambridge. But please read the meters and the street signs. Some parts of Cambridge require their meters to be fed until 8 p.m. Buses for Arlington and North Cambridge originate in Harvard Square on the Red Line. These buses pass by Cafe Barada, which is just past Rindge Avenue and is across the street from Saint John's Church. Please be considerate of me and other members: do not hold a "Yes" RSVP unless you are reasonably certain that you will be able to attend. Shear Madness

Shear Madness, Boston's hilarious whodunit and the longest running play in American theatre history, is a mixture of improvisation and up to the minute spontaneous humor, Shear Madness lets the audience solve the crime.
